Volunteer
Due to the confidentiality of our program locations and the intensive training required to work with women and children who are survivors of complex trauma, House of Ruth offers very limited volunteer opportunities. Right now, our needs are met.
However, there are other ways to help. Many individuals and groups in the community organize their own fund-raising efforts for House of Ruth. We’ve received donations from children who set up a lemonade stand, groups of friends who have gathered at a potluck or cocktail party, yoga workshops, benefit concerts and performances of many kinds, and birthday celebrations where gifts to House of Ruth were encouraged. A wide variety of student groups, from day care programs and elementary schools to colleges and universities, have used a variety of approaches to raising funds for the women and children at House of Ruth.
If you'd like to raise money for House of Ruth, please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it describing your idea for raising money. We'll review it (to make sure you aren't inadvertently proposing something that doesn't fit with our mission) and be glad to send you information about House of Ruth for your use. Our staff stays very focused on their work with the women, children and families (and our administrative staff is very small), so we usually can't provide a person to participate in the many fund-raising activities held on our behalf.
You can always encourage your circle of family, friends and associates to learn about House of Ruth and support us.
Bottom line - please don't feel that you must do more than give. Truly, the best way to help the women and children at House of Ruth is with your financial donation. Your gift will help us provide housing and services to more than 600 women and children daily at 13 locations in the city who are battling homelessness, extreme poverty and abuse.
