I Am So Grateful

I am so grateful; House of Ruth has really saved my life.  This program is here to help you.  Anything you need is available; if not, the staff will find a way to make sure you get it.  I love it here, we go places, do things, they make sure you keep growing.  I have my food handler’s license and a job.  Now I am saving for a place of my own.  After my time at House of Ruth, I will never be homeless again.

--A Woman at House of Ruth

Welcome!

House of Ruth helps more than 1,000 women and children annually who are dealing with homelessness and domestic violence.

Please Help Close the Gap!

As House of Ruth’s fiscal year draws to a close on June 30, 2013, we still need to raise $100,000 to reach our funding goal.

The goal matters because if we don’t make it, we may need to reduce our services to women and children who are homeless and abused.

The women and children need and deserve our best efforts.  Every day, we’re providing multiple tools and opportunities to women and children in need to help them improve their lives.  Of all the resources that we offer, our skilled and caring staff is the most important.  They are the ones who provide the daily support, encouragement and guidance that the women and children rely on.

Please help us sustain our important work.  Make an additional gift to House of Ruth today!

About House of Ruth

Founded in 1976, House of Ruth helps women, children and families in greatest need and with the fewest resources build safe, stable lives and achieve their highest potential. At House of Ruth, we are ending homelessness and life-long abuse.

At our 14 programs in Washington, DC, we assess the capacities and needs of each woman and child, then design and deliver a specialized combination of services to meet their specific needs and build on their strengths.

We enfold the women and families in an environment that is safe, structured and predictable and where they receive highly responsive and caring attention from the staff.

The women are dealing with many challenging issues: poverty, homelessness, domestic violence and, often, a history of mental illness and/or addiction. The children typically have developmental delays and emotional and behavioral problems.

Despite all these challenges, the women and children have not given up. They are resilient, courageous and determined to improve their lives.
